Went to get 4 new tires. Price was good, tires seem to be fine. BUT during the process, the mechanic comes out and asks me to come in and take a look at something. The tires are off and he has me try and turn the rear wheels by hand. They are very snug. The first thing I ask is if the brake is on! He says no. He's pointing to the caliper and tells me they are worn and not opening all the way and the pads are getting worn and he'll do the rear brakes for only $225. What he doesn't know is that I've been fixing cars for 40 years and these brakes look fine to me, just tight. The rotors are perfectly smooth- not even a slight grooving on them. So on my own I go up to the front wheel and try to turn that one and it is also snug. but he is trying to convince me that the front one turns easier then the rear. So I just say I only have money for tires right now and I'll think about it. But imagine if I was some unknowledgeable person and this mechanic is telling me my rear brakes are no good and I need to spend $225 to fix them????

OK I pay for the tires and I go outside to take the car.

I get in and lo and behold I see the emergency brake about halfway up. (It cant be me I NEVER touch the thing and besides; They are the ones that drove it into the bays and had it for the past hour.) They actually drove it out to the parking lot with the brake on a little bit?!?!

So I took it home and immediately took my jack out and jacked up the back tire so it wasn't touching the ground and with the emergency brake off, the tire that he was showing me was so tight you could barely turn it.... I could now spin with one finger and it kept turning free and easy after I let go. Well, it's a good thing I have car repair experience and want going for his bull. Not only were the rear brakes not bad, but they are exemplary perfect and probably will not even need the pads changed for a year or more. So the conclusion is that this Mavis mechanic is either an *** (because I even asked him if the brake was on,) or he is an out and out crook. I am also remembering that the last few times I have my car fixed there I thought the work was shoddy. Either way.... if you get a good price you can get tires or an oil change from Mavis, OK But do not ever let them do any mechanical work from a wheel alignment to anything they suggest.... ever!!! Buyer Beware!!
